TYPHOON HAIYAN : Pos Malaysia issues stamp in aid of victims

KUALA LUMPUR: Concerned over the suffering of victims of super typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines, Pos Malaysia Berhad today launched the Typhoon Haiyan Humanitarian Aid Stamp.The stamp campaign which will be held over three months is the first such initiative in the country. 
 
The stamp will be sold at RM10 each with RM6 chanelled to efforts to help the victims. The stamp can be obtained at all post offices throughout Malaysia.
 
The campaign was launched by Deputy Communication and Multimedia Minister Datuk Jailani Johari, who urged all telecommunications companies in the country to help make it a success.
 
The super typhoon which hit the Philippines last Friday has caused untold devastation in the provinces of Leyte, Tacloban and Pulau Samar, leaving more than 10,000 people dead while thousands are still reported missing. -- BERNAMA
 

Stamp Issued In Aid of Typhoon Victims

POS Malaysia has issued a stamp for the Typhoon Haiyan Humanitarian Aid Fund as part of efforts to assist victims in the Philippines.

“We have been selling the stamps since Nov 14 and will continue to sell it until Feb 28 next year,” said Pos Malaysia stamp and philately head Yasmin Ramli.

She added that 60% of proceeds from the sale of the stamps would be donated to the relief fund.

Priced at RM10, the public can purchase them at any Pos Malaysia branch in the country.

Typhoon Haiyan, known as Super Typhoon Yolanda in the Philippines, was one of the most intense tropical cyclones on record. On making landfall, Haiyan devastated portions of Southeast Asia, particularly the Philippines. It is the deadliest Philippine typhoon on record, killing at least 6,300 people in that country alone. In terms of JTWC-estimated 1-minute sustained winds, Haiyan is the strongest landfalling tropical cyclone on record. In January 2014, bodies were still being found. It began to form on 3 November 2013 and dissipated on 11 November 2013.
