WORLD POST DAY
To commemorate World Post Day on October 9, 2011 and for the Annual Malaysia Stamp Week, stamps of postboxes of Bukit Bendera or Penang Hill, Faser Hill, Melaka, Seremban and Kuala Lumpur are featured in RM1 sheet and in 60 sen adhesive stamp booklet.
Every year, more than 150 countries celebrate World Post Day in a variety of ways. In certain countries, World Post Day is observed as a working holiday. Many Posts use the event to introduce or promote new postal products and services. Some Posts also use World Post Day to reward their employees for good service.
In Malaysia, there are different post boxes for different types of mails, such as regular post, air mail and PosExpres, as well as for local and out-of-town addresses.
All post boxes in Malaysia are painted in red, with the exception of PosExpres post boxes which are painted yellow.
The post boxes depicted in the stamps show the changes in the design of the post boxes from the time of the British administration until the era of independence and leading to the current period. The earliest post boxes manufactured in Great Britain were produced with the initials of the ruling monarch topped with the crown or royal coat of arms.
The post boxes depicted in the stamp booklet show the changes in the designs of the post boxes from the time of the British administration until era of independence and leading to the current Malaysian period, as well as the interesting varieties of box used.
