The date for the coronation of his eldest son and successor was fixed for May 12th 1937.  In the event, Edward VIII was never crowned and, following his abdication and the accession of his brother on December 11th 1936, the same date was chosen for the coronation of the new king, George VI and his queen, Elizabeth.
