ICTs : SOCIAL NETWORKS

Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) and their integration into Social Networks are the motif of this mini-sheet, comprising six hexagonal stamps and a series of pictograms with no postal value, representing the wide range of social relationships that can be maintained online. 

ICTs are: "The technologies developed to manage information and send it from one place to another." They include electronics as the basic technology for storing, retrieving, transmitting and receiving information anywhere. ICTs and their use in Social Networks are a social phenomenon, and have revolutionised business and how people communicate. Their most significant characteristics include: immediacy, as information can be transmitted as it is produced and sent to remote places; interactivity, facilitating two-way communication between people and groups that interact based on their interests; and digitisation, changing information from a physical element to something immaterial. Digitisation means that large quantities of information can be stored on small devices such as CDs, USBs or memory cards. 

The Internet, smartphones, GPS, bar codes, magnetic credit card strips, online sales, email and videoconferences are just some of the media ICTs offer society and the business world. 

Some Social Networks allow you to search for and connect with people all over the world, and share photographs and multimedia files. Others are very useful for users and artists who want to get their name out there, where they can share videos and post comments. Blogs gather articles by one or more authors on travel, cooking, educational subjects, shopping, and many other subjects. There are also professional social networks where you can post a training profile and apply for a job. ICTs and the new Social Networks are now part of our lives.
